Our Projects:

We have two main refinery projects which are:

Bazian Oil Refinery

1- Introduction

Bazian refinery contains 2 Topping units, each unit capacity 10,000 barrel per day (BPD), and each unit has:

1.1 furnaces.

1.2 Tower.

1.3 Stripper.

1.4 MEROX Sweetening unit for naphtha.

1.5 MEROX sweetening unit for kerosene.

1.6 Control unit (Electricity and sensitive instrument)

This refinery is designed by (HOWE BAKER) company), establishment work done by (SIDCO) State Industrial Design and Consultation of Iraqi Ministry of Industry & Mineral, more than %90 of works are completed on the 2 Topping units.

In exception to the 2 topping units, also the following units are available:

1-     TEL for treating naphtha.

2-     Tank farm (12 large tanks); A- 2 Tanks for crude oil, B- 2 Tanks for naphtha, C- 2 Tanks for gasoline, D- 2 Tanks for kerosene, E- 2 Tanks for diesel, F- 2 Tanks for fuel oil.

3- Industrial water treatment unit.

4- Loading and unloading area for crude oil and oil products.

5- 2 storey building for management and administration.

6- Small building for laboratory.

2- Work phases

On 25/12/05 a contract signed between SIDCO (SIDCO) State Industrial Design and Consultation of Iraqi Ministry of Industry & Mineral) and SCOP Company of Iraqi ministry of Oil to establish this refinery in Bazian and was due to be completed on 25/12/06 but failed to finish in time, the period had been extended to 01/07/07, again they failed to complete in time, until 20/02/08 and according to petition from Ministry of Natural Resource (MNR) which replaced the Iraqi oil ministry for this contract, but so far the project is not ready, the following works are still outstanding:

1-     Establishing pipes, tubes and hunger in furnace.

2-     Industrial water treatment unit and drainage.

3-     Many working relating to loading and unloading of crude oil and oil products.

4-     Some fire fighting works.

5-     Establishing Laboratory.

After BEZHAN-PET took over in October 2008, the work is ongoing to complete the tasks mentioned above.

3- Current phase and production:

This refinery is designed to work with Kerkuk's crude oil and each unit capacity of 10,000 BPD capable of producing:

1-     Naphtha ( later to be processed  to gasoline)

2-     Kerosene

3-     Diesel

4-     Fuel oil.

Volumes of each product mentioned above are subject to changes depending on crude oil used, if Kerkuk oil specification is (API=36) used then capability is 10,000 BPD, if Shiwashok oil used then the production capability is reduced to 7000/8000 BPD, to reach the capability of producing 10,000 a day, modifications must be done to some machines and units, specially towers and cooling units.

Naphtha produced here will have 65 Octane, which is why we must treat it with TEL treatment to reach 78 Octane.

4- Development Phase

Together with completing Topping units, we plan to establish these units:

1-     Hydrotreater unit for naphtha.

2-     Hydrotreater unit for kerosene.

3-     Reformer unit for treating Octane volume and producing Super Gasoline with Octane of 95.

4-     Transport line (either from Kerkuk or Shiwashok).

1-      Expansion to 75000 BPD.

5- Equipment Description:

-          Crude column

-          Kerosene stripper, Diesel stripper

-          Crude feed heater

-          Crude reflux heater, Crude reflux accumulator, Crude/naphtha exchanger,

Crude / kerosene exchanger, Crude/diesel exchanger,

           Crude/residuum exchanger, Crude condenser

-          Kerosene cooler, Diesel cooler, Residuum cooler

-          Crude charge pumps, Residuum pumps, Naphtha pumps, Sour water pumps,          Kerosene pumps, Diesel pumps

-          Burner management module

-          Corrosion inhibitor package.

BRIEFING FROM AMAROS REFINERY

Continuous System is a process, that we call nonstop system. The system has been designed for processing maximum 1000 m3 crude oil daily which will be provided from the 1000 m3 crude oil tanks.

The crude oil will be charged with the charging pums, which shall pass through the preheating unit and the Flowing Instrument (FIL than will be injected to the 1st reactor by passing the ignition distributors. By keeping the level constant, and the temperature in 140 °C, and the vacuum round 50 mm/Hg, light Hydrocarbons shall be vaporized, and then it will be condendensed by the condensators, and will reach to the 2nd reactor.

Naphtha, will be taken in the 2nd. Reactor, at the start the temperature shall be 150°C, and the vacuum 100 mm/Hg. The end phase for the naphtha is 185°C and the density round 680 kg/rn".

In the 3rd. Reactor Kerosene will be taken, the temperature should be adjusted to 220°C, vacuum 300 mm/Hg, density 800 kg/rn", and the flash point to 38 0(, To make the process easier, dry steam can be given from bottom of the reactor.

Diesel, is an other product which will be distillated in the 4th. reactor. Hot steam will be given at 280°C, 640 mm/Hg vacuum, and the end phase is 340°C, At the 5th reactor the temperature will reach 310°C, and the vacuum at 700 mm/Hg. Hot steam will be given, and the end phase shall be 380°C, flash point 60°C and the density at 340 - 350 kg/m".

Fuel Oil, is the product which will be taken from the bottom of the reactor. The product will be taken by the pumps which are working under vacuum. Fuel Oil will be send to the Fuel Oil tanks by passing through the heat exchanger and fuel oil cooling pond.

All products will be processed under the control of the chemical laboratory. The products will be send to the storage tanks after the product control at the laboratory.

Naphtha, and kerosene will be transferred to the Dr. Triptic unit, where it will be cleared from sulphur, and unwanted odours. Using this method shall increase the quality, and shall help environment protection.

To increase the octane procent of Naphtha some harmless chemicals (Organic) will be added, and this will give us a product with min. 90 octanes. The proportion of this additive compound will be %0 5, causing no harm to the engine, besides it will increase the performance of the engine.

The refinery unit has also a Water Purifying Plant, where the purifying will be made in chemically, and biological. Purified water can be used for irrigation in agricultural purpose.

There is also a Degasifier System, where the toxical, and harmful gases will be burned, and will not give any harm to the environment.

A Monitor System which will control the levels at the tanks, and will give a certain answer about the quantity of the products.

Plans for the future;

1)     To add an Asphalt Unit, where modified, and emulsion asphalt will be produced,

2)     Gases from the degasifier unit will be used as fuel at the boilers.
